A statistical Study of the Foreign Bodies in the Otolaryngology

Abstract

|
|
The Statistical study was done on 127 Cases of the Foreign Bodies in the otolaryngology who visited the Dept. of Otolaryng. of St. paul¢¥s Hospital from Jan. 1969 to Dec. 1975. The results were as follows. 1. The total numbers of the foreign bodies were 127 cases, 65 cases(50%) were The food passages, 30 cases (23%) were the nasal cavities, 15 cases (12%) were the external auditory canal, 11 cases (8%) were the pharynx and 7 cases (6%) were the air passage. 2. The most frequent in the food passage were the coin(60%), the air passage were the beans (23%), the external auditory canal were the vegetables(70%), the nasal cavidies were the papers (20%) and the pharynx were the bone(90%). 3. 86 cases(68%) of all foreign bodies were under 5 years of age, especially 73% of esophagus and 83% of nasal cavities occured in this age group but 90% of pharyngeal foreign bodies were occured in over 3 decade age groups. 4. The sex ratio of male to female was 1.8: 1 in total cases and 1.6: 1 in esophagus 1. 3 : 1 in air passage, 6.5: 1 in external auditory canal, 1.5: 1 in nasal cavities and 10:1 in pharynx.
